Depression Treatment

Get the Mental Health Care You Need

One of the hardest, but most rewarding steps you can take on your mental health journey is asking for help, and individual therapy can be a great place to start. Individual therapy offers a private, one-on-one space to talk about your mental health concerns, receive personalized care, and gain the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges. If you’re ready to make a change in your life and well-being, we’re there to guide you through everything you need to know about individual therapy and how it can help you.

The Basics of Individual Therapy

Individual therapy, also known as talk therapy or psychotherapy, is a one-on-one mental health treatment that adapts to your needs and goals. This form of therapy involves a single patient and a provider in a private setting, talking through your specific concerns. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other challenges, individual therapy can help you explore your past, set goals for the future, and develop strategies to manage your symptoms or triggers. Through individual therapy, we’ll help you learn coping mechanisms to help you lead a healthier, happier life.

What You Can Expect From  Individual   Therapy

If you’ve never tried therapy before, you may not know what to expect from your treatment. That’s okay! We all start somewhere. We’re here to break down some of the things you experience along the way. Just remember, it’s not an overnight solution. Therapy takes time, but if you’re willing to put in the effort, you’ll see and feel the difference it can make.

If you’ve never been to therapy before, you don’t have to worry that your therapist is going to dive into your deepest feelings on the first visit. Individual therapy begins with building a rapport between you and your therapist. These initial sessions are about establishing a connection and understanding your story. There's no rush to dive into your deepest wounds immediately; the process is paced according to your comfort level. As you build trust, you'll gradually delve deeper into the issues affecting your mental health.

A significant part of therapy is learning practical techniques to manage your mental health. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are commonly used methods that help you recognize and change negative thought patterns, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and establish positive habits. We’ll adapt these techniques to your specific needs to ensure you get the most out of your treatment.

Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Every person’s mental health journey is unique. At With, our approach to therapy is flexible and may involve combining different therapeutic methods to best address your needs. Whether it's through individual therapy alone or combined with other approaches, we’ll work alongside you to create a treatment plan that works for you.

It’s important to have a safe environment where you can explore difficult emotions and thoughts. Therapy provides a confidential and judgment-free space where you can express yourself freely. Your therapist is there to listen, support, and guide you without any judgment, helping you feel comfortable and understood.
Sadly, therapy alone cannot make your problems disappear. It equips you with the tools you need to manage them effectively. Therapy helps you set realistic and attainable goals that help you work to overcome your challenges. Over time, you'll learn how to navigate your emotions, make positive changes, and lead a more fulfilling life.

Individual Therapy FAQs

Deciding to start therapy can feel like a weighty decision. There may be some reservations or questions you have before committing to it. We’re here to answer them and give you the clarity you need to take that first step.

How Long Does Therapy Last?
Therapy is a personal journey, and the duration can vary depending on your needs and progress. We generally recommend a commitment of at least six months to allow time for long-lasting growth and healing. At With, our sessions typically last about 50 minutes, but can go on longer so you have enough time to explore your thoughts and work on your goals.
What Can Individual Therapy Treat?
Individual therapy is a helpful tool for a wide range of mental health concerns. At With Behavioral Health, we specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. However, therapy can also be beneficial for issues such as trauma, relationship difficulties, and stress management.
Is Therapy Right For Me?
If you struggle with extreme emotions, have experienced trauma, feel a loss of enjoyment or purpose in life, or find that your personal relationships are strained, therapy can be very helpful for you. It can also be the right path if your loved ones have expressed concern about your mental health or if you feel that your emotional struggles are interfering with your daily life. As long as you’re serious about wanting to improve yourself, therapy can be a great resource for self-growth and change.
When Should I Start Therapy?
There is no “right” or “wrong” time to start therapy. You don’t need to be at rock bottom or severely traumatized to seek help. Therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of issues, whether they are severe or more subtle. It’s important not to compare your journey to others’ experiences; if you’re struggling, you deserve help and there’s no shame in asking for it.

You’re Not Alone – Why You Should Take Your First Steps

Self-care and self-improvement are important, but they have their limits. If you’ve been struggling with your mental health on your own for some time, maybe it’s time for a change. Therapy opens up the doors to new possibilities, tools, and techniques. It’s the difference between walking through a maze blind and being guided through the maze by someone with a bird’s-eye view. Your therapist is there to guide you through the twists and turns of mental health, offering support whenever you need it. You don’t have to feel lost or hopeless as you navigate your mental health challenges; we’re here to help you find your way. It may be your journey, but you don’t have to undergo it alone.

Benefits of Therapy

Therapy can improve your life in many ways beyond helping you manage your symptoms. Through therapy, you can learn more about yourself. It’s a space where you can discover strengths you’ve never known, understand long-standing patterns in your life, and get to the root of deep-seated issues. Therapy also helps you widen your support network, giving you a place to vent about your frustrations in a healthy way while providing the motivation you need to make positive, long-lasting changes. If you’ve ever felt that spark, that urge to change, therapy can be the tool you’re looking for to achieve it.
